Ginostra è un piccolo villaggio situato nell' isola di Stromboli, nell' arcipelago delle Eolie, raggiungibile solo via mare.
A Ginostra le case hanno la vista o sul vulcano o sul mare, alcune su entrambi . Dal 28 febbraio 2004 le case hanno elettricità ed acqua corrente. Per i turisti nostalgici si possono sempre usare candele e lampade a petrolio la sera. Qui la vita è primitiva e magica, i ritmi sono quelli di un tempo, non ci sono automobili (solo asini) ed il silenzio che vi circonda permette di ascoltare le mille voci, di solito lontane e sconosciute, della natura. L'eccezionale posizione (sud-ovest) vi consente di godere di un panorama unico, con vista sull' arcipelago delle Eolie, sull' Etna, nelle rare giornate grigie estive e sulla costa siciliana. Per tutte queste caratteristiche uniche, Ginostra è conservata come un parco naturale e diventa un sofisticato rifugio per persone che amano la pace, il silenzio assoluto e il buio della notte.



Il paese abitato fino agli inizi del secolo da un migliaio di persone, conta attualmente solo una quarantina di residenti.
L' abitato è costituito da abitazioni nel tipico stile eoliano, grandi ed appartate, disposte ad anfiteatro in una conca naturale che guarda il tramonto. Da qualche anno non si sbarca più romanticamente con il rollo, nel "Pertuso" il porto più piccolo del mondo nel quale possono entrare solo due, tre piccoli natanti, ma ad un piccolo molo contiguo, ove attraccano il traghetto e gli aliscafi. Le
provviste vengono trasportate a piedi o ci si affida a "Nicoletta", "Pretty" e "Santina": tre asini un po' testardi, ma che evitano numerose fatiche e rumori. Particolare è l'atmosfera che si crea tra i villeggianti. Specialmente la sera al Puntazzo il bar
ristorante in cui si incontrano belle persone di tutto il mondo, in piazzetta, ognuna con storie e vicissitudini
che rendono più interessanti i giorni di vacanza.

Per gli amanti della pesca nelle acque degli splendidi fondali del mare di Ginostra si incontrano facilmente cernie, occhiate, le velocissime ricciole, i polpi e le murene e nelle sere senza luna, possono infine pescare, mettendosi d'accordo con i locali, i totani davanti alla "Sciara du fogu", assistendo al sempre speciale spettacolo pirotecnico offerto dal vulcano ogni 15/20 min. Oppure si potrà ammirare la volta celeste, incredibilmente chiara nelle notti non turbate da luci artificiali (portatevi un binocolo 10x50). Chi ama invece la spiaggia trova la scogliera antistante il paese o affascinanti arenili vulcanici di colore nero, raggiungibili in barca, in canoa o per i più intrepidi a piedi.

La gita al cratere dello Stromboli (900 Mt.) è una delle più eccitanti esperienze che si possono fare. Si raggiunge la vetta
dopo circa tre ore di salita abbastanza ripida e quando si giunge sulla cima si può avere una esperienza unica ammirando le eruzioni del vulcano e la vista di tutte le altre isole, della costa siciliana e calabrese, e nelle giornate più terse anche l'Etna. Ginostra, pur nel suo calmo ritmo che ricorda la vita d'altri tempi, dispone dei seguenti servizi: Guardia medica, Ufficio postale, telefoni pubblici,
fax, due ristoranti, due alimentari e un fornito bazar. Non ci sono Bancomat e Carte di Credito, chi desidera può
inviarsi dei soldi all'Ufficio Postale di Via Portella.
